Sustainable Development Goal 15

GOAL 15: Life on land
Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt the loss of biodiversity:
Terrestrial ecosystems provide a series of goods, raw materials for construction and energy, food and a series of ecosystem services including carbon sequestration, maintenance of soil quality, provision of habitat for biodiversity, maintenance of water quality, as well as water regulation. control of flow and erosion, thus helping to reduce the risks of natural disasters such as floods and landslides, regulate the climate and maintain the productivity of agricultural systems. Maintaining these ecosystems greatly supports climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
The preservation of diverse life forms on land requires specific efforts to protect, restore and promote the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial and other ecosystems. Goal 15 specifically focuses on managing forests sustainably, halting and reversing degradation of land and natural habitat, successfully combating desertification, and halting the loss of biodiversity. All of these efforts combined aim to ensure that future generations enjoy the benefits of terrestrial ecosystems, including sustainable livelihoods.
