Natural disasters heavily affect the education sector by destroying key infrastructure, interrupting educational cycles and forcing children to drop out of school for an extended period. At the same time, education is a powerful tool to strengthen the resilience of societies. Formal and informal education, including public awareness and training, are essential to promote sustainable development and enhance the capacity of people and countries to address development and environmental issues and create green and decent industries and jobs.
