Our mission

goals

Our challenge in the 2030 Agenda is to address its complexity and ambition. We have aligned  our strategic planning  with the 2030 Agenda and we are working to strengthen our partnerships, both within and outside the United Nations system, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals while addressing emerging environmental issues.

We are working to ensure the effective delivery of the environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda. Informing policy with science

We identify the science that integrates social, economic, and environmental considerations for policy-making and decision-making. We feed information from multiple stakeholders into data collection, analysis and evaluation processes at the national, regional and global levels. We are also developing our public advocacy, awareness and outreach to mobilize all those who can influence the changes needed to achieve the SDGs.

Provide expert knowledge and technical assistance on the environment.

We provide technical guidance and support for environmental governance, developing coherent laws and policies and their effective implementation. This is to ensure that frameworks are in place for environmental laws and institutions, and that environmental considerations support development policy.

Convene stakeholders to agree on global environmental standards.

Access to information is a key condition for citizen participation, transparency and accountability in the 2030 Agenda. Important efforts have been made to ensure that citizens, civil society, different levels of government and the private sector are consulted about the new agenda. We will continue creating and facilitating channels of cooperation between the Foundation, governments, bilateral and multilateral agencies, companies and civil society organizations to initiate joint commitments and actions.

Integration into regulatory frameworks with the work of UN Environment

To meet the 2030 Agenda, the United Nations system must be innovative, agile, inclusive and results-oriented. The United Nations system recognized the need for integrated, system-wide policies and strategies in support of the SDGs, policies that link normative frameworks with operational activities and encompass all United Nations activities. We are now integrating these normative frameworks, such as human rights, gender equality, and peace and security, into our work.

Use partnerships to increase impact

Effective cooperation for sustainable development will require the formation of alliances and thematic platforms that bring together multiple stakeholders (governments, civil society and the private sector) to improve decision-making, strategic planning, service delivery, exchange of knowledge and collective monitoring and accountability. At all levels.

Supporting the universal character of the 2030 Agenda

We contribute to the United Nations efforts to achieve system-wide coherence on sustainable development from an environmental perspective, with a focus on creating coherence in the way the United Nations system integrates the environmental dimension to implement regulatory guidance and environmental safeguards, and United in Action in the country. level. Our work includes designing methods to review, learn and readjust to ensure that actions taken at the national and regional levels are linked to global goals.

Working in all regions, as well as in the World, with a strengthened strategic regional presence will allow us to work towards global consensus and policy coherence on the environmental dimension of sustainable development, while creatively seeking opportunities and approaches at the level. regional. By working regionally, we can foster effective partnerships, including through Cooperation and with the broader United Nations system through Delivering as One.

Address emerging issues

We draw up a careful and authoritative ranking of the most important emerging issues for the regional and global environment, including those related to the implementation of the SDGs. The objective is to keep the community aware of these issues and help shape the work plans of all companies that require it.
